KNEC to introduce a mid-year series of KCSE exam
The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) will introduce a mid-year series of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination which will be administered in July every year.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba announced that his ministry has introduced a mid-year series of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
This targets candidates wishing to repeat their exam, or those who missed it due to unavoidable circumstances.
“The government has kept enhancing measures aimed at ensuring high levels of efficiency and effectiveness in the administration of national examinations. Starting this year, and following extensive stakeholder consultations, I wish to announce that the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) will introduce a mid-year series of the KCSE examinations to be administered in July every year.
“The examination will target candidates wishing to repeat the KCSE examination and those who may have missed sitting for examinations due to sickness or other unexpected hardships,” Ogamba remarked.
“Adult candidates may also consider registering for the July KCSE series examination,” he said while releasing the 2024 KCSE results.
In the phase out of the 8-4-4 education system, the last class to sit KCSE exam will do the test in 2027.

“Any person wishing to repeat fully or partially should take advantage of the remaining chances to do so,” KNEC CEO David Njengere said during the release of the exams.
Migos added that the Ministry of Education is working on integrating the use of Orbit Readers and phase out Braille machines in the administering KCSE examination in a bid to align with the global assessment practices.
Meanwhile, KNEC CEO Dr. David Njengere disclosed that the last KCSE examinations will be administered in 2027.
Njengere further added that KNEC will commence registration of the 2025 KPSEA candidates on January 27, while the portals for registration of KJSEA and KCSE examination candidates will be opened from February 17.
“I wish to remind the public that the last KCSE examination will be administered in 2027. Any person wishing to repeat fully or partially should take advantage of the remaining chances to do so,” the KNEC CEO stated.
