Make public the exact amount of money used in Raila’s AUC campaigns; Karua to Ruto

Martha Karua has called on President William Ruto to make public the exact amount of money that was used to finance ODM leader Raila Odinga's AUC campaigns
People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua has called on President William Ruto to make public the exact amount of money that was used to finance ODM leader Raila Odinga’s AUC campaigns.
In response to the arrest of Juja MP George Koimburi on Tuesday, February 18, Karua opined that Kenyans were only demanding accountability for money used in the campaigns.
Through her X account, she condemned the arrest of the UDA lawmaker.
Further, she expressed that a clear statement by Ruto would address the rumours about the use of billions for the campaigns.
“Let William Ruto come clean on how much the campaign spent instead of avoiding accountability by harassing those asking for it,” she stated.
Karua made the remarks following the arrest of Koimburi. According to allies of former DP Rigathi Gachagua, the MP was arrested for remarks he made regarding money spent on Raila’s campaigns.

According to the MP, Ksh13 billion was used in the campaigns.
“Where did the Ksh13 billion go? Why was such a large amount allocated to a losing campaign when it could have been better utilized for the completion of stalled government projects across the country,” the MP claimed.
The government is yet to release the official figures on money used in the campaigns. However, according to Government Spokesperson Issac Mwaura government exercised fiscal discipline during the campaigns.
“This is a matter that will be discussed in detail soon enough. Right now we can assure Kenyans that we are not using a lot of money for the campaign of Raila,” Mwaura stated during a press briefing on December 23, 2024.
