The Kenya Metrological Department has warned of heavy rainfall for 90 days in various parts of the country

The Kenya Metrological Department has warned of heavy rainfall for 90 days in various parts of the country.

In a comprehensive statement, the weatherman explained that the above-average rainfall will start in March until May.

According to the forecast, Nairobi is among the areas which will experience heavy rainfall for 90 days.

“The March April May (MAM) 2024 forecast indicated that above-average rainfall is expected over the Lake Victoria Basin, Highlands West of the Rift Valley, Central, Northern and Southern Rift Valley, Highlands East of the Rift Valles (inhaling Nairobi County), Northeastern, Southeastern Lowlands and Northwestern regions,” the statement read in part.

In the Coastal areas, near-average rainfall is expected for the three months, according to the Metrological Department.

“During the season, it is likely that several areas will have a general fait to good distribution of infall in both time and space, except over the northeast and northwestern regions where the rainfall distribution is expected to be poor to fair. The season is expected to experience an early to normal onset with occasional dry spells. Occasional storms are likely to be experienced in some parts of the country,” the weatherman noted.

The peak of the rains is expected to be in April for most regions, except over the Coastal Strip where the peak is expected in May.

The temperature forecast indicates warmer than average temperatures are expected over the whole country with increased probabilities over the coastal and northern parts of the country.

During this period, Kenyans are expected to engage in agricultural activities that is preparing of the land and planting.

The Kenya Metrological Department also advised motorists to drive cautiously as visibility is likely to be reduced in some areas due to mist and heavy rains.

Moreover, Kenyans are advised to monitor weather patterns when moving to be ahead of the curve.

With floods expected in some parts of the country, residents have been advised to move to higher grounds.
