More woes for DP Gachagua in the Mt Kenya leadership
Njuri Ncheke elders endorse Kithure Kindiki for the Mt Kenya Kingpin in a major blow to DP Gachagua.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki got a major boost in the Mt Kenya Kingpin race after Njuri Ncheke elders endorsed him as the region’s point man.
Addressing the press on Wednesday, September 18, the elders announced that they had decided to pick the CS as the kingpin of the Mt Kenya East counties which include Embu, Meru and Tharaka Nithi counties.
As part of his new role, the leaders tasked the CS with being the link between the people and the national government.
“To ensure we remain focused on development, we endorse Prof. Kithure Kindiki, to be the link between our region, the President, and his government,” the chairperson stated.
“We believe his national stature will help foster good relations with other regions,”
The endorsement of Kindiki by the elders barely came days after 48 legislators unanimously named the CS as their link with the government, a move that was seen to sideline Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Notably, Gachagua has been accused by some of the lawmakers of his region of undermining the government and intimidating those opposed to his leadership.
Among the leaders who have been vocal against Gachagua include Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung’wah, who alleged that the DP was out to mobilise the region to play tribal politics.
On the other hand, allies of the DP such as Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa have accused senior government officials of disrespecting Gachagua and orchestrating plans to remove him from his seat.
“The Nyahururu Declaration was more than just a symbolic gesture. It was a calculated move that undermined the very fabric of representative democracy,” the lawmaker remarked.
“Ichung’wah and Kindiki have scored an own goal, while Gachagua continues to enjoy unwavering support—not only in Mt. Kenya but across the country. It is time for the people of Mt. Kenya to reflect on the actions of their leaders.
