Nyong’o dismisses reports of rift in ODM party over support for President William Ruto.

Interim Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Anyang’ Nyong’o has dismissed reports of internal strife within the party following the inclusion of four members in Ruto’s Cabinet.

In a statement released on Friday, Nyong’o explained that the party remains a formidable force in shaping the country’s politics as it has in the past.

He noted that the opposition party still upholds democratic values by championing the people’s voice and is a beacon of hope to the public.

“I wish to reaffirm the unwavering commitment of ODM to the democratic principles that define our party. ODM was founded as an independent, revolutionary, and people-centered movement, and we remain steadfast in these ideals,” he said.

“Our mission has always been to serve the Kenyan people by championing justice, equity, and sustainable development.”

Nyong’o, who is also the Kisumu Governor, reaffirmed that the party does not play second fiddle to the interests of another party, this despite joining the Kenya Kwanza administration under the broad-based government.

“As ODM members, we are resolute in upholding the values of democracy, accountability, and transparency in our quest to create a better Kenya for all. Let there be no misunderstanding: ODM does not play second fiddle or trumpet the interests of any other political party,” the Governor said.

“We remain a formidable force in shaping Kenya’s political landscape, firmly rooted in our principles and ideology.”

He, however, pointed out that the party may seek alliances and coalitions that align with its vision and ideology.

“These partnerships are not acts of subservience but deliberate efforts to strengthen our resolve in achieving our primary goal: capturing political power to transform the lives of Kenyans,” noted Nyong’o.

Reports of internal divisions have recently played out with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s henchmen providing contradicting statements about their support for President Ruto’s government.

Formed ODM frontman and now Cabinet Secretaries John Mbadi (Treasury), Hassan Joho (Mining), and Opiyo Wandayi (Energy) have been singing to the tune of Kenya Kwanza’s policies, appealing to the public to back the President.

The four CSs, alongside National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed, have accompanied the President on previous events, showering him with praises.
