The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has refuted claims that some of its officials engaged in a fistfight during the Central Committee meeting held in Nairobi.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, January 14, Acting ODM Party Leader Anyang’ Nyong’o disclosed that the meeting, which took place on Friday, January 10, was conducted in an atmosphere of mutual respect and unity of purpose.
Nyong’o, who also serves as the Governor of Kisumu County, expressed shock over the allegations, noting that the meeting concluded amicably, with resolutions effectively communicated to the public.
“On Friday, January 10, 2025, I chaired a fully attended meeting of the Central Committee of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in Nairobi. The meeting’s agenda primarily focused on reviewing the recently conducted polling unit party elections and addressing pressing political and economic issues currently facing Kenyans.
“I have, however, been shocked and dismayed by stories circulating in sections of the media, insinuating that there were disagreements, even going as far as alleging fistfights during the meeting. Let me categorically state that nothing could be further from the truth. The meeting was conducted in a spirit of camaraderie, mutual respect, and unity of purpose,” Nyong’o remarked.

At the same time, the acting ODM leader maintained the party was stronger and more united than ever and that it remained steadfast in its pursuit of justice, democracy, and prosperity for all Kenyans.
Nyong’o noted the ODM operated under well-established structures even as he called on the media for fair treatment.
“Let me reiterate that ODM operates under a functional party constitution and well-established structures, and we remain committed to upholding these principles,” Nyong’o stated.
He added, “We will not be swayed or distracted by baseless and lazy allegations, rumours, or propaganda aimed at undermining our mission and values.”
