ODM will scatter under Joho; Alai

Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai says Ali Hassan Joho cannot lead the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party
Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai says Ali Hassan Joho cannot lead the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
In a statement on X, Alai said the former Mombasa governor has reduced the influence of the Orange party in the coastal region, where he has been the party’s point man.
“Governor Joho can’t lead ODM. He reduced the influence of ODM’s main support base in Mombasa. ODM will scatter with Joho as the leader,” Alai stated.
Joho on Sunday met a section of ODM lawmakers as talks of camps emerged in the Orange party ahead of next month’s grassroots elections.
Joho was with National Assembly Minority Whip Junet Mohamed, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Narok Senator Ledama ole Kina.
Chungwa House insiders revealed that there is a vicious succession battle in Raila Odinga’s ODM, with the outfit’s top brass secretly scheming against each other.
Multiple sources said there’s a scheme by a section of top party officials to inherit Raila’s constituency and take over ODM.

The fight is said to pit the two ODM deputy party leaders-Joho and former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.
This comes days after ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga proposed that Joho and Deputy Party Leader Wycliffe Oparanya could lead the party if he exits local politics. Raila endorsed the two leaders to steer the opposition party if he clinches the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.
Speaking on Thursday, March 7, 2024, Raila said that his exit from local politics should not kill the opposition party, which has existed for nearly 20 years.
“I’m here with Governors (Wycliffe) Oparanya and Ali Hassan Joho. They will come together (to lead ODM). A party with a strong foundation cannot crumble just because one person has left. I am confident that these (two) will continue driving the party agenda even though I’ll be in Addis Ababa. If they want advice, I am ready. ODM will remain intact,” Raila stated.
