Kane scored a winning goal against Man City with Pep Guardiola sending him a message after scoring a winning goal.
Pep Guardiola and Manchester City were left with a ‘look what you could have won’ feeling after Harry Kane scored a fantastic brace in Tottenham’s 3-2 victory at the Etihad Stadium.
Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane received accolades from Pep Guardiola as the England captain inspired Antonio Conte’s team to a dramatic 3-2 away victory over Manchester City.
The 28-year-old tormented the team that made a last-ditch attempt to sign him during the summer transfer season.
Dejan Kulusevski’s fourth-minute goal against the Premier League leaders was made possible by his swiveling first-time ball.
Kane gave Tottenham the lead in the second half when he half-volleyed Son Heung-inch-perfect Min’s cross into the far corner.
However, just two minutes after Riyad Mahrez’s penalty appeared to give the league leaders a late point in the 92nd minute, Kane rose up again to knock home a 95th-minute winner.
In the second half, Guardiola praised the Tottenham striker, implying that he was the reason for the north Londoners’ victory.
“Well, it was a good game. We tried through many sides, especially down the left. It is very difficult, they defend so narrow,” Guardiola said after the loss.
“Tottenham have a lot of quality. They give the ball to Harry Kane. They are really good upfront.
“In the first half, they have the goal and no more. In the second half, they have one attack with Harry Kane at the start and they score.
“We try to score but we conceded the goal in extra-time.”
The shock result at the Etihad Stadium has completely blown the title race and the race for the top four open.
City came into the game with a six-point advantage over second-placed Liverpool, who had a game in hand on Guardiola’s team.
However, if Jurgen Klopp’s team wins its one-game advantage, that lead could be reduced to just three points.
