Prediction of Champions League games, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Chelsea, and Manchester City; see who wins final
The Champions League is hotting up.
With UEFA completing the quarter-final and semi-final draw on Friday afternoon, football fans around the world can start looking forward to the business end of the 2021/22 European season.
Liverpool and Bayern Munich received the most favourable draws against Benfica and Villarreal respectively, while Chelsea lock horns with Real Madrid and Manchester City slug it out with Atletico Madrid.
Prediction of Champions League games
Quarter-finals
Chelsea vs Real Madrid
First leg: Chelsea 1-0 Real Madrid
Second leg: Real Madrid 2-0 Chelsea (2-1)
Many people are overlooking Los Blancos in Europe and just happen to have a sneaky suspicion that a Chelsea side that has been ebbing and flowing all season are waiting to be found out.
Vinicius Junior and Karim Benzema are the perfect combination to prize Chelsea’s defence open and the second leg being held at the Bernabeu gives them a great opportunity to come back from behind yet again.
Manchester City vs Atletico Madrid
First leg: Manchester City 2-0 Atletico Madrid
Second leg: Atletico Madrid 1-1 Manchester City (1-3)
Maybe Diego Simeone’s side will make this a miserable and low-scoring tie at times, but City simply have too much attacking quality not to outclass Atletico over two legs.
Villarreal vs Bayern Munich
First leg: Villarreal 2-2 Bayern Munich
Second leg: Bayern Munich 3-0 Villarreal (5-2)
Villarreal will cause Bayern a lot more problems and so don’t be surprised if the narrative of this tie takes on a similar plot to the Red Bull Salzburg matches.
Benfica vs Liverpool
First leg: Benfica 0-3 Liverpool
Second leg: Liverpool 1-0 Benfica (4-0)
This might seem like disrespect against Benfica, but the simple fact of the matter is that Liverpool are just too good for Portugal side.
Prediction of Champions League games; Semi-finals
Manchester City vs Real Madrid
First leg: Manchester City 2-1 Real Madrid
Second leg: Real Madrid 1-2 Manchester City (2-4)
Liverpool vs Bayern Munich
First leg: Liverpool 3-1 Bayern Munich
Second leg: Bayern Munich 1-1 Liverpool (2-4)
This is a mouth-watering match-up and arguably the world’s best front threes exchanging leather across 180 minutes that almost certainly guarantees goals.
And while we’d be remiss to sleep on the quality of Bayern’s back-line, it’s far more likely in my mind that Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip will hold firm than Lucas Hernandez, Niklas Sule and Benjamin Pavard.
Prediction of Champions League games; Final
Liverpool 2-0 Manchester City
There’s something that feels so dirty, so cruel about tipping Pep Guardiola to lose a second consecutive all-English Champions League final.
There’s alway scope to do a job on City in one-off matches and the stage is set for Mohamed Salah to round off what could well be a Ballon d’Or-winning season.
However, even if the Citizens would come out on top in a clash between the Premier League title challengers, there’s no denying that the knockout tree is ripe for it to happen.
