Raila Odinga Leads Ruto In Latest TIFA Polls Conducted In Three Counties; Nairobi, Mombasa and Makueni.

Raila Odinga is the most preferred presidential candidate in three counties according to an opinion poll by Trends & Insights for Africa (Tifa), released Tuesday, May 3.

Raila Odinga leads Ruto and remains the most preffered candidate in Nairobi County at 41 per cent, 48 per cent in Makueni and 50 per cent in Mombasa.

His political rival, Deputy President William Ruto of Kenya Kwanza is at 26 per cent in Nairobi, 32 per cent in Mombasa and 18 percent in Makueni county.

However, there is a large percentage of people counties that are undecided.

TIFA also did a survey to determine the popular political party and alliances, popular aspirants for governor, senator and women rep posts in Nairobi, Makueni and Mombasa counties.

The Azimio candidates appeared to have a clear majority compared to their counterparts in Kenya Kwanza – except in the Nairobi city gubernatorial race. 

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna led the race for the Nairobi senatorial seat with 19 percent support – followed by Kwanza’s Bishop Margaret Wanjiru with six percent. 

In the Woman Representative seat, the incumbent Esther Passaris had the highest support with 27.8 percent followed by Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga at 6.2 percent support. 

Senator Johnson Sakaja leads with 23 percent, followed closely by Azimio’s Polycarp Igathe at 15 percent in the gubernatorial race. 

42 percent of the respondents supported the Azimio faction as the most popular coalition in Nairobi, followed by Kenya Kwanza’s 22 percent. 

The poll also ranked ODM as the most popular party with 26 percent support ahead of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) which had 22 percent. 

Jubilee came at a distant third with a paltry five percent. 

In the highly contested Mombasa Gubernatorial race, ODM’s Abdulswamad Nassir dominated the polls with 40 percent while the Wiper party’s aspirant Mike Mbuvi Sonko, a new entrant in the race, came second with 28 per cent. 

UDA’s Hassan Omar received nine percent.

The survey was conducted in April 2022, and sampled 1,949 respondents in Nairobi, Makueni and Mombasa counties

The survey had a 4 percent margin of error.
