Romano; Chelsea refuse to offer improved deal to their defender, make their final contract offer

2 min read

Romano Fabrizio has revealed that Chelsea have refused to offer an improved deal to their defender and, already made a final offer.

The 25-year-old Andreas Christensen, alongside Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta, has entered the final months of his contract at Stamford.

Despite his age, he continues to play a backup role in the club. This is partly due to Thiago Silva’s outstanding consistency.

Nonetheless, Christensen is a reliable option for Silva.

Chelsea would be under pressure to find a replacement if he left on a free transfer, which might be costly.

Chelsea, however, has made it clear, according to Romano, that they would not enhance their offer after Christensen backs out of their deal.

“Christensen’s situation seems really, really complicated,” the Italian said on his YouTube channel.

“Last August, they [Chelsea and Christensen] had an agreement — a verbal agreement.

“Then he changed his agent and changed his mind [about the deal].

“So Chelsea are saying, ‘We offer you the same contract we offered in August. If you want to accept, we’re happy, and if not, this is our bid.’

“This is why Christensen is exploring the market with his agent and [has] received many, many approaches.

“Barcelona and Bayern [Munich] are interested in Christensen as a free agent.”

Romano; Christensen’s demands

According to Sport1, the centre-back is seeking a deal for €10 million per year (£8.4 million), which would be more than treble his present wage.

According to the report, Christensen is currently one of Chelsea’s lowest-paid players.

It’s unclear whether any of the clubs said to be interested in him are willing to meet his demands, but according to a recent source from Spain, Barcelona is optimistic in completing the transaction shortly.
