Ruto advisor issues warning over recent killing of women “your days are numbered”

President Ruto advisor warns preparators of gender-based violence following recent killing of women

Harriette Chiggai, President William Ruto’s advisor on women’s rights, has sent a strong warning to anybody planning acts of gender-based violence.

Speaking to the media on Friday, January 19, Chiggai stated that the government will make sure the culprits are arrested noting that their days are numbered.

“Those who are planning to rape and kill our girls, we are putting you on notice, your days are numbered,” said Chiggai.

She urged the judiciary to expedite cases of intimate partner violence adding that she will engage the institution to see how better GBV survivors are treated with dignity in courts and that these cases do not delay.

Chiggai also said her office is committed to working with female lawmakers to push for stiffer penalties as well as recognizing that intimate partner violence cases are acknowledged for their misogynistic nature.

“The Office of the Women’s Rights Advisor has an open door policy for all matters women’s rights and this is to let you know that we are here to work together to form solutions that will last for generations to come,” she stated.

At the same time, Chiggai asked young girls to exercise caution on how and with whom they interact with on social platforms.

She noted that GBV has now taken the form of technologically facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV).

The Ruto advisor further asked Kenyans to be mindful and sensitive to the families who have lost their loved ones in the recent femicide incidents.

“I have seen comments from different quarters stating that our children, Starlet Wahu, Rita Waeni and just yesterday, a woman who was killed by her husband deserved to be killed! These and many other women and girls have suffered the fate of violence that we as a society have refused to address. My condolences to the families that are in pain today,” she added.
