Safaricom has increased internet speed for both home and business customers to accommodate the increasing demands of individual and corporate users

Safaricom has increased internet speed for both home and business customers to accommodate the increasing demands of individual and corporate users.

In a statement on Monday, September 23, Safaricom said existing customers will be automatically transitioned to the improved packages, allowing them to benefit from the increased speeds.

The new speeds for the Bronze package are now 15Mbps, while the Silver package now has speeds up to 30Mbps.

The new speeds for the Gold and Diamond packages are now 80Mbps and 500Mbps respectively.

For Home fibre services, Safaricom has launched a new ultra-fast Platinum plan offering speeds of 1000Mbps, priced at Ksh 20,000 per month.

This new plan makes Safaricom the first to offer Gigabit speeds for home internet, catering specifically to high-demand users such as gamers and content creators.

This plan can be shared with up to five members of one household, with customers also getting up to 20% discount on the bronze plan.

Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa noted that the introduction of the new speeds offers the capability of handling the most demanding online activities with ease.

“The introduction of the new speeds offers capability of handling the most demanding online activities with ease, including high-definition streaming 4K/8K, gaming, large file transfers, cloud computing, and virtual reality. We have also introduced family share which offers a converged internet and mobile solution for home that can be shared with up to five loved ones,” Ndegwa stated.

Safaricom disclosed that it would carry out estate clinics to improve service capacity in densely populated regions and provide competitive 4G and 5G offerings for residences located in areas lacking fibre coverage.
