Senior driver attached to Governor Orengo office dies in a tragic road accident
Siaya Governor James Orengo has mourned the death of senior driver George Were who died in a tragic road accident while on duty.
In a statement on Tuesday, May 6, Orengo expressed deep sorrow over the incident, revealing that Were was en route to Naivasha when the accident happened.
“It is a deeply sorrowful evening for Siaya County as we mourn the loss of one of our own, Senior Driver George Were who was involved in a tragic road accident at Delamere Center while on official duty en route to Naivasha,” he said.
Orengo further disclosed that the accident also left several other county staff members injured, including the Chief Officer for Education, Richard Ogeda, and Easter Okello of the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB).
The governor conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family and well wishes to the injured.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to George’s family and pray that they find strength and comfort during this painful time.

“We also wish a swift and full recovery to Chief Officer for Education, Mr. Richard Ogeda, Easter Okello of LREB and all other staff members who were injured in the accident,” he added.
The tragic news comes barely a month after four people were confirmed dead in a grisly road accident on the Northern By-pass near the Membley Bridge area.
According to the police, the vehicle, a Suzuki Wagon, involved in the accident had four occupants, namely Dionisious Njau Githinji, Naomi Wambui and two others unknown.
The trailer was en route to the Membley roundabout coming from Kahawa West when the small car rammed into the rear of the trailer.
Police said that due to the impact of the collision, all four occupants of the Suzuki Wagon died on the spot.
The bodies were booked into Thika’s General Kago Mortuary ahead of the identification and post mortem.
