Senior police boss, an inspector stoned to death by rowdy youth during illicit Alcohol crackdown in Siaya.

A police inspector was on Wednesday stoned to death by a group of rowdy residents in Rarieda, Siaya County.

The officer, in the company of his colleagues was conducting an operation on illicit brew in Siaya when he met his untimely death.

Upon arriving at the scene, the police officers hesitantly arrested the suspect who was allegedly participating in the illegal trade in Ndori Village.

During the arrest, the female suspect raised an alarm, drawing the attention of villagers who responded by attacking the officers with crude weapons, resulting in the fatal stoning of Inspector Kariuki.

The youths then began pelting stones at the officers mainly targeting the police inspector leading the crackdown.

The police inspector fired into the air five times in an attempt to disperse the angry youths, but his efforts did not have the desired result as the crowd persisted eventually overpowering the officers.

After outwitting the officers, the crowd went ahead to stone the inspector to death, leaving his colleagues with critical injuries.

Reports from Ramogi TV indicate that the woman was apprehended with 21 sachets of illicit alcohol and four packets of cigarettes intended for export.

Meanwhile, the Ceska pistol used by the deceased in the failed mission is yet to be recovered.

Police have since launched a probe into the matter in a bid to bring to book the perpetrators and recover the stolen gun.

In a similar incident in December last year, a mob attacked a Kenya Defence Forces officer and hit him with blunt objects, leading to his death.

The deceased had gone to rescue minors from undergoing Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in Marakwet.

The mob after killing the officer, went ahead and burnt his body in Maron before fleeing with his gun loaded with 40 rounds of ammunition.
