Haitians living abroad protest against President William Ruto plan backed by US to send Kenyan police to Haiti.

Haitian nationals living in the United States of America have taken to the streets condemning Kenya’s move to send 1,000 police officers to the Caribbean country for peace and security restoration.

The protesters were heard chanting, “William Ruto… US puppet… Kenya… shame on you!”

They also carried placards, shouting ‘Kenya, shame on you!’

The placards were written; ‘US out of Haiti’, ‘Haiti gangs armed by USA’

The protestors were also waving the Haitian flag, shouting in front of an office along an unknown street.

Another placard also bears the image of the current Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry, written: “Ariel Henry, US appointed puppet.”

This comes after on Monday, the United Nations Security Council passed a resolution authorizing a multinational security mission – led not by UN peacekeepers but by Kenya’s national police service – to tackle gang-related violence in the Haiti capital Port-au-Prince.

President William Ruto’s decision to send Kenyan officers off to the embattled country has, however, not been warmly received by large sections of stakeholders with many calling the move I’ll-advised and akin to sending Kenyan officers to their death camps.

According to experts, an intervention is critical to stop the violence, and given that the Haitian National Police force is outgunned and underpaid, many feel like the Kenyan police were not adequately fit to tackle such a menace which has, in the past, even defeated better-trained troops.

Several Kenyan leaders have also questioned the move, alleging that Kenya is not ready to send its troops to Haiti.
