Sonko vows to help the woman claiming to have child with Kelvin Kiptum benefit from deceased property

Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko promises to ensure the family of Kelvin Kiptum recognise the woman claiming to have child with the world marathon record holder

Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko promises to ensure the family of Kelvin Kiptum recognise the woman claiming to have child with the world marathon record holder.

Sonko stated that just as he helped the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth’s son receive all the benefits of being his son, he would do the same for Kiptum’s alleged child.

“I was to attend the funeral of the late Kiptum, but I missed the flight. My concern was to advocate for justice for Edna and her child, just as I fought for justice for the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth’s son, and he received all the benefits from both the parliament and insurance.”

Edna’s child should also be a beneficiary in terms of financial support and the house that the government is providing.

In line with my previous advocacy for the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth’s wife to undergo a DNA test and subsequently be recognised by the family alongside her child, I am equally committed to advocating for justice and recognition for the baby mama of our fallen hero Kelvin Kiptum,” Sonko said.

The former Nairobi governor revealed that he was willing to support all the legal processes to ensure Awuor receives justice and recognition from Kiptum’s family.

Sonko claimed that had he attended the funeral service, he would have pleaded with President William Ruto to intervene

“I will personally sponsor and support the necessary legal processes to ensure that she receives the justice and recognition she deserves from the athlete’s family. Every individual’s rights and dignity must be upheld, and I am dedicated to seeing that principle realized in this case. This is the late Kiptum with the alleged child, and I have no doubt that if he were alive today and asked if this is his son, he would have accepted. I missed the burial because my flight was delayed. Otherwise, I would have pleaded for this lady to receive justice in front of the president,” he added.

This comes after a woman, Edna Awuor, claimed to be having a child with the 24-year-old athlete, Kelvin Kiptum.
