State counsel commits suicide after partying with friends
State counsel, Kevin Gesire, 34, attached to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions commits suicide after partying with friends
Kevin Gesire was attached to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in Kitui County.
He was found dead in his apartment on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, he had been involved in a road accident where his car, rammed into guard rails on his way home after a night out with friends.
His coworkers and acquaintances were taken aback when they learned of his suicide just seconds after police went into his home and discovered his body dangling from the bathroom window.
According to his senior colleague, Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Bonnie Okemwa, Mr. Gesire had not shown any signs of depression but had left a suicide note that implied he was struggling in life.
“He left a suicide note that said he was unhappy for not clinching a job as a magistrate during recent interviews at the Judiciary,” Mr. Okemwa said.
Mr. Okemwa added that his office had discovered that Mr. Gesire had been partying late into the night on Monday evening after work.
The state counsel slammed into road guard posts on his way home, severely injuring his vehicle.
His pals assisted him in towing the car to his residence.
Crispus Ogutu, the Kitui Central sub-county police commander, ruled out foul play, stating his residence was locked from the inside and a belt was discovered around his neck.
“So far, we are treating this as a suicide based on our initial findings but a postmortem will be done before we conclude our investigations,” Mr. Ogutu said.
However, a colleague at the DPP’s office in an interview with the media outlet revealed that the officer was plagued by debts and marital woes, and had recently separated from his wife.
