Top six threats to Kenya’s security in 2024; Interior CS

Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki has listed terrorism as the top threat to Kenya's security in 2024

Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki has listed terrorism as the top threat to Kenya’s security in 2024.

In a statement on Sunday, December 31, 2023, Kindiki said the Interior Ministry’s top priority remains the safety and security of the people of Kenya.

“Terrorism, banditry, narcotics, corruption, violence, cyber-attacks, and climate change lingered as the most consequential threats to our Homeland Security. In our assessment, they will remain so into 2024,” Kindiki stated.

According to Kindiki, the country has experienced several incidences of insecurity while several others have been thwarted by security officers.

“Unfortunately, criminal plots did succeed in some instances, to our detriment. Those successes have made it to the news and are in the public domain. However, Homeland Security goes beyond scattered instances where criminals have succeded to hurt us,” he said.

CS Kindiki said that in 2024, the government will focus more on the interception of terrorist cells and their neutralization, suppression of bandits, disruption of crime, and the prevention of attacks.

“It is more about the numerous, unreported cases of interception of terrorist cells and their neutralization, suppression of bandits, disruption of crime, and the prevention of attacks on our critical infrastructure. To the gallant and patriotic officers – uniformed or not- who have made Kenya’s Homeland Security their most important business, Kenya is grateful to you and prays for you and your families for blessings, grace, and good health into 2024,” he added.
