Controller of Budget Margaret Nyakang’o has revealed that the national government spent Ksh3.1 billion on foreign travel between July and December 2024.
As detailed in her report covering the first half of the 2024/2025 financial year, the State Department of Foreign Affairs was the biggest spender at Ksh1.48 billion.
The National Assembly, on the other hand, recorded an expenditure of Ksh595 million.
Meanwhile, the Senate reported an expenditure of Ksh242.97 million, while the Parliamentary Joint Services spent Ksh118.66 million.
Other notable spenders were the State Department for Diaspora Affairs (Ksh72.37 million), the Judiciary (Ksh61.55 million), the State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services (Ksh69.71 million)
As detailed in the report, State House had an expenditure of Ksh56.9 million, while the Executive Office of the President spent Ksh16.89 million.
At the Office of the Deputy President, which covered the tenure of Rigathi Gachagua and his successor, Kithure Kindiki, an expenditure of Ksh5.48 million was realized.

The Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary spent Ksh10.18 million.
Some offices did not have any expenditure in foreign travel, and they included the State Department for Cabinet Afairs, State Department for Internal Security and National Administration and State Department for Higher Education and Research.
The State Department for Medical Services, the State Department of Transport and the State Department for Youth Affairs and the Arts also did not record any expenses on foreign travel.
Other notable offices were the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the National Police Service Commission.
