Interior Cabinet Secretary nominee Kithure Kindiki says he does not instruct operations but policies and therefore could not resign from the CS position.

Interior Cabinet Secretary nominee Kindiki Kithure has explained why he has never bowed to pressure and resigned despite calls by some leaders and civil rights due to killings attributed to the police.

Kindiki who was appearing for the vetting said as a CS he does not instruct operations but policies.

He was responding to a question by Kathiani MP Robert Mbui who had questioned why he never resigned during his tenure yet there are many murders suspected to have been caused by the police.

Mbui claimed there have been over 100 deaths in the country over the last two years.

He had cited the recent assassination attempt on US presidential candidate Donald Trump which he said forced Director of the Secret Service Kimberly Cheatle to resign.

According to Kindikid, he can only resign if his policy instructions are unconstitutional or illegal.

“The honorable member said the Director of Secret Service resigned but also drew a parallel saying our Inspector General resigned. The minister did not resign in the US, I don’t know why the Kenya minister must resign,” he said.

Kindiki is among the 10 CS who served in President William Ruto’s dissolved Cabinet.

President William Ruto nominated Kindiki back to the Interior Ministry after dismissing his entire Cabinet.
