‘You came in recently and want to be ‘Pharisees’ in front’, Governor Lee Kinyanjui lashes at Kalonzo over DP post
Governor Lee Kinyanjui has dismissed Kalonzo’s remark over the deputy president post saying Mt Kenya expects nothing short of DP.
The Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui was responding to Kalonzo’s recent remarks that it’s obvious who will deputize ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Speaking on Sunday, April 10, Kinyanjui stated that the Mt Kenya region expects nothing short of the running mate position.
He said that the region will support Raila’s presidential bid to the end but maintained they will not do so blindly.
“As a region, we will follow Baba and support him until he gets to State House. But we also want to confirm that we are not blind followers. We want to follow, but our interests must be taken into account. The region of Mt Kenya expects nothing short of the deputy president. It does not matter where it is, it does not matter from what region but our interests must also be incorporated there,” said Kinyanjui while addressing Nakuru residents.
The governor argued that the region began its journey with the former premier when no one else was willing to join him.
In an apparent reference to Kalonzo, Kinyanjui stated that persons who recently joined the coalition will not be allowed to occupy front seats and influence the tempo and tune of Azimio.

“When we started the journey other people had not approached Baba. They came in recently and what to be ‘Pharisees’ in front. We are not thereby chance, but by choice,” said the governor.
Governor Kinyanjui, Martha Karua, former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, and Agriculture CS Peter Munya are among Mt Kenya leaders touted to be Raila’s running mate for the 2022 presidential election.
