Juja MP Koimburi arrested outside his home and taken to DCI Headquarters for questioning.

According to reports, he was apprehended outside his home on Tuesday morning and transported to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters for questioning.

Koimburi, who had previously claimed that the government spent some Ksh 13 billion campaigning for Raila Odinga in the African Union Commission (AUC) elections, was apprehended shortly after leaving his residence on Kenyatta Road in Juja.

Speaking before his arrest, the MP claimed that two Subaru vehicles were stationed outside his house, and that DCI officers apprehended him before driving him to Kiambu Road.

His arrest comes amid rising political tensions following Kenya’s failed bid for the AUC chairmanship.

Koimburi, a vocal critic of the government, questioned the rationale for the alleged campaign spending, escalating political debate.

Koimburi made the damning remarks during a church service, accusing the President of using taxpayers’ money to entice African Presidents to vote for former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as the chairperson of the African Union Commission.

“Kenyans are worried after witnessing public funds being poorly utilised to bribe individuals so that they can vote in Raila Amollo Odinga as the new chairman for AU in Addis Ababa. It is such a shame,” Koimburi stated.

Police have yet to release an official statement about the arrest.
