President William Ruto hosted Reverend Edward Mwai of Jesus Winner Ministry Church at State House, Nairobi

President William Ruto hosted Reverend Edward Mwai of Jesus Winner Ministry Church at State House, Nairobi.

In a statement on Thursday, March 6, Ruto commended the Church for its role in complementing the government’s Labour Mobility Programme.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that create employment and expand income opportunities for young people.

“We appreciate Jesus Winner Ministry Church for complementing our Labour Mobility Programme by hosting a recruitment drive, which aims to secure jobs for our youth abroad,” Ruto said.

During the meeting, Reverend Mwai also updated the President on the progress of Jesus Winner Ministry’s construction project in Roysambu.

Speaking at the church on Sunday, March 2, Ruto pledged a personal donation of Ksh20 million to support the church’s expansion efforts.

Additionally, he committed to organizing a fundraiser with his associates to raise an extra Ksh100 million for the church’s construction project.

“I will donate Ksh20 million first, and we will plan a harambee with my friends to raise Sh100 million in support. This church will be built so that we embarrass the enemy of this country,” he said.

Ruto’s substantial pledge sparked mixed reactions among the public who expressed concerns about the origins of such large donations.

The public uproar forced the church to issue a clarification, noting that the church had not yet received the pledged Ksh20 million from Ruto.

Speaking on Thursday, the church secretary, Raphael Mweti, noted that Ruto made the donation following a request by Mwai.

He also indicated that the President had on many occasions supported the church previously.

“We wish to clarify that Ruto has been a faithful worshipper since 2009. The President’s pledge is a support of Ksh20 million, following a request made by our general overseer Edward Mwai,” Mweti stated.
