Azimio-OKA Unrest; Raphael Tuju Speaks After Kalonzo Writes To Registrar of Political Parties To Stop Registration of the coalition.

Raphael Tuju, the executive director of Azimio la Umoja, has dismissed allegations of discontent in Raila Odinga’s alliance.

Tuju stated on Tuesday that the alliance is still united and that any issues they face will be resolved.

Tuju spoke after chairing a meeting of all Azimio-OKA Secretary generals at a Nairobi hotel; exuding confidence that the matter will be addressed amicably.

“We will resolve the matter and how it will be resolved we leave it to the team within the coalition that is going to deal with the matter. As far as I’m concerned, there’s no cause for alarm,” he said during a press briefing at Serena Hotel.

He said the teething problems being experienced in the coalition are normal occurrences, insisting that their focus is delivering victory in the August 9 General Elections.

Azimio-OKA Unrest

The meeting took place a day after the One Kenya Alliance coalition (OKA) wrote to the Registrar of Political Parties to request that the Azimio-One Kenya Alliance registration process be halted.

The parties claimed that there is a hidden intention to amend an original agreement signed by three caucuses in order to include a fourth caucus without all parties’ assent.

However, Wiper Secretary General Shakila Mohamed said, “We want to affirm our unity and state that Azimio-OKA is intact and we are moving together. Of course, as we move together there must be turbulence.”

“We want to tell you that the letters were legitimate and are being handled by the principals.” Kanu Secretary General Nick Salat added.

The One Kenya Alliance wing had written to the Registrar of Parties seeking a stop to the registration of the coalition immediately.

The One Kenya Alliance brings together Wiper Party led by Kalonzo Musyoka, United Democratic Party led by Cyrus Jirongo and Senator Gideon Moi-led KANU.

The OKA team wants the running mate issue to be addressed as they feel there are plans to shortchange them.

“Our objection is premised on fact that three (3) issues have not been agreed upon and are to be deliberated and agreed upon before the Agreement is fully registered,” OKA said.

They want the running mate slot to be a preserve of Kalonzo and are now fearing that they can lose it if the current arrangements go as it is.

OKA also maintains that the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance is a product of three major parties that include ODM, Jubilee, and Wiper party.
