The body of a 29-year-old secondary school teacher which was retrieved from River Yala has finally been picked after it was positively identified by relatives.
The body which was identified to be of Nicholas Kipkorir Ng’etich who was a teacher at Emalindi Girls’ High School in Kakamega was discovered and retrieved at Ndanu falls in River Yala on August 27, 2024.
The teacher is suspected to have been abducted and murdered by unknown people.
According to colleagues of the deceased led by Cornelius Chumba, relatives, friends and colleagues had been attracted by a video that was uploaded on social media by human rights activists from Haki Africa of a body that was being retrieved from River Yala.

They traced the body in Siaya County Referral Hospital mortuary and managed to positively identify that it belonged to Ng’etich who went missing on August 10, 2024.
Chumba, who spoke to journalists at the mortuary the body was being picked, revealed that Kipkorir, who hails from Kuresoi South did not drown but was killed elsewhere and his body dumped into the river.
He stated that the body was in bad shape and was already decomposing, a clear indication that he had been brutally murdered.
Family members led by the slain teacher’s uncle Samuel Rotich said they have lost a young and promising graduate.
He has therefore called on the security agencies to conduct thorough investigations to ensure justice is served.
