A female police officer has been arrested by her colleagues after being accused of taking part in a robbery with violence case.
The said officer was arrested on Friday, September 23, in Kitui County.
The individual is accused of committing the offence while working for the Diplomatic Police Unit, according to the National Police Service.
The suspect, a police constable, had been placed under close monitoring as a result of the case.
The order for the arrest of the officer was ordered by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution on August 7.
“She will appear before the Kitui law courts on Monday, September 25, 2023,” the statement by the police read in part.
She is expected to face the charge of robbery with violence under Section 295 of the Kenyan Penal Code.
“Any person who steals anything and at the time of or immediately before or immediately after the theft uses or threatens to use actual violence to any person or to any person who is within hearing is guilty of the offence,” Section 295 states.
The police officer risks life imprisonment over her case.
The minimum sentence for robbery with violence is life imprisonment, but a judge can impose a shorter sentence, depending on the circumstances of the case.
