The rugby player was arrested on suspicion of raping a teenager in a nightclub
The England star was held in custody this weekend, according to the Daily Mail, following a complaint of the alleged incident, which occurred after the man in question partied at a nightclub in Manchester city centre on Saturday night.
The victim allegedly planned to take a taxi home with companions but instead accepted a ride from the player, who allegedly drove her to a residence outside of town where they spend the night.
The homeowner discovered the girl in a confused state the next morning at 11 a.m. and phoned the cops.
A 41-year-old woman has also been arrested on suspicion of distributing a drug with the purpose to commit a sexual offense.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “Officers were called shortly before 11 am on Sunday, 9th January to a report of a sexual assault on a female.
“A woman in her late teens was reported to have been sexually assaulted. She is currently being supported by specialist officers.
“A man has been arrested on suspicion of rape and a 41-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of administering a substance with intent to cause a sexual offense.
“Detectives have launched an investigation and are following up a number of lines of inquiry.”
Both arrested parties have been released on bail.
