EPRA increases fuel prices in latest review

Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced new increased fuel prices

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced new increased fuel prices, which will take effect from midnight, January 15, 2025, to February 14, 2025.

Under the revised pricing structure, the cost of Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene will increase by Ksh 0.29, Ksh 2.00, and Ksh 3.00 per litre, respectively.

According to EPRA, consumers in Nairobi will pay Ksh 176.58 for Super Petrol, Ksh 167.06 for Diesel and Ksh 151.39 for Kerosene.

The new prices include a 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) as stipulated in the Finance Act 2023 and the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024.

Notably, EPRA’s review of the landed costs of petroleum products revealed mixed trends.

The cost of importing Super Petrol decreased slightly by 0.14%, from USD 612.53 per cubic metre in November 2024 to USD 611.69 in December 2024.

Diesel costs saw a minor increase of 0.06%, rising from USD 643.69 to USD 644.10 per cubic metre over the same period.

EPRA oversees the regulation of electricity, petroleum (including upstream and downstream), and renewable energy.

EPRA’s responsibilities include licensing, economic regulation, and dispute resolution for various utilities, such as the Kenya Electricity Generating Company and the Kenya Pipeline Company.

EPRA conducts a monthly review of fuel prices, adjusting them based on various factors such as global oil prices, exchange rates, and local economic conditions.
