Morning fire razes down property at John Mbadi Oma Secondary School
Learning was disrupted at Oma John Mbadi Mixed Secondary School in Suba, Homa Bay County after a fire broke out at the learning institution early Wednesday morning.
During the incident, a dormitory was completely torched and property worth millions destroyed.
School administrators revealed that some 65 students spent their night at the dormitory.
Speaking to journalists after the incident was reported, Suba Deputy County Commissioner Sebastian Okiring reported that the inferno broke out at around 7am when students were in their classrooms going about their usual learning activities. The cause of the fire was still to be established as of Wednesday noon.
“At least 60 boxes that contained student belongings were destroyed,” the official stated before revealing that law enforcement authorities will conduct investigations thoroughly including interrogating the possibility whether the latest incident is a case of arson.
A section of students at the learning institution were depicted watching helplessly as the situation unfolded. It has since been established that police officers have arrived at the institution to probe the cause of the fire.
The latest incident adds to the long string of fire incidents reported at schools across the country in the last one week.

The fire at John Mbadi Secondary School came after a fire incident was reported at Isiolo Boys High School on Tuesday evening. Passersby were depicted watching in disbelief as property of unknown value went up in smoke.
Incidentally, the fire at Isiolo Boys was reported 3 days after a dormitory at Isiolo Girls was razed by a raging inferno.
One day earlier, a fire was reported at Yemit Boys High School. A few hours later, another fire incident would later be reported at Father Makewa School in Machakos County.
President William Ruto has already instructed security agencies to speed up investigations into the cause of widespread fire incidents at schools.
“Compliance with government regulations on curbing fire accidents in learning institutions is not negotiable. This is the only insurance we have to effectively prevent the loss of life and limb in schools,” the Head of State posted on September 10 after receiving a report from the Ministry of Education on the fire incident at Hillside Endarasha.
