Foreign Affairs PS Korir Sing’oei has blasted Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi over his display of opulence (Ksh 16.6M watch) during a YouTube interview.

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi on Saturday attracted the ire of Foreign Principal Secretary Korir Sing’oei after bragging about his expensive taste and spending on luxury items.

While appearing on Obinna Show on Thursday night, Sudi, a lawmaker known for enjoying luxury excesses, bragged about a high-end watch he purchased valued at Ksh16.6 million ($128,000).

In his defence, he argued that luxury clothing and jewelry had been manufactured for human consumption and that he should not be judged for his knack for expensive wearables.

“This watch was not manufactured for trees or cows but it was made for human beings,” Sudi posed.

“Who do you want to wear these watches? If you tell me not to wear the suit and tie, who do you want to wear it when the products are in the shop? This is the stupidity of the highest order.”

Sudi’s utterances upset the public attracting ire from Kenyans and a select section of high-ranking state officials.

Foreign Affairs PS Korir Sing’oei termed the interview unfortunate. “(This is an) unfortunate interview. To what end?” He posed.

Nation Columnist and Professor Makau Mutua observed that the interview was tone-deaf.

“He even had to carry the watch.  It’s pathetic. If it was about business, it would have served the nation better if he came to talk about the business acumen that enables him to be rich,” lamented Vitalis Ogola.

Since the Finance Bill 2024 collapsed, Sudi has been a target by the public for his lifestyle as well as his utterances.

During the Finance Bill protests in June, a group of individuals broke into his Timba XO Club in Uasin Gishu and stole expensive goods before leaving it in ruins.

Earlier, the public had also criticised him for claiming that he rarely attended Parliament sessions and preferred business trips to amass wealth.

“I heard other people yesterday saying that Sudi has a lot of money and I am asking them, ‘Do you want me to become poor?’ I am donating to the church because I am from a humble life.

“If you go to Parliament to take tea, I travel for deals. When You see me going to Tanzania and elsewhere, do you think I go looking for stones?” he posed in May.
