Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutrua on Sunday flagged as fake an SMS message of a recruiter supposedly calling for applicants to sign job offers and others for fresh interviews.
In the fake message, the recruiter was purportedly calling on applicants to avail themselves on Monday, November 11, to sign an offer letter at a specific location far from the Kenyatta International Conference Center (KICC) where initial interviews took place.
CS Mutua, in a statement, also cautioned Kenyans not to fall for schemes designed by con artists who are out to defraud the public in the name of job interviews.
“Successful candidates from the Qatar interviews will be notified by phone call, not SMS. Appointment letters will be available for collection only at Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC),” he asserted.
The author of the fake SMS had also asked his recipients to inform their friends that there would be fresh interviews for light and heavy-duty drivers on the same, which the CS outrightly dismissed as misleading.
The former Governor noted that the authors of the message and the company behind the communique would face the full force of the law when caught.
“Security agencies are actively pursuing the authors and publishers of the above and other similar misleading and false information intended to scam unsuspecting Kenyans,” CS Mutua revealed.
He further urged Kenyan job seekers to exercise vigilance before they fork out any money for the promise of jobs. “Please remain cautious of potential con artists,” he added.

This came barely two weeks after thousands of Kenyans flocked to KICC and Kabete National Polytechnic for job interviews to fill job vacancies in Qatar.
Interviews for hospitality roles such as nurses, chefs, waitstaff, drivers, child attendants, and housekeepers were held at KICC while applicants for construction and technical roles were directed to Kabete Polytechnic in the outskirts of Nairobi.
The interviews were arranged in partnership with a Qatari employer which attracted applicants from sectors spanning from hospitality, service industry, construction, and other technical sectors.
The exercise saw candidates registered for specific job roles allowed in for interviews which lasted late into the night with long queues witnessed at the KICC.
The initiative was part of the government’s ongoing efforts to expand job opportunities abroad for Kenyans.
