Government issues flood alert to 5 regions
The Ministry of Interior has issued flood alert to five regions in Kenya owing to the projected rains over the weekend.
In a statement dated Saturday, November 30, the Ministry listed North Eastern, South Eastern, Coast, Central and South Rift Valley regions in the advisory.
According to the government, the regions were likely to experience storms over the weekend.
Meanwhile, the Ministry noted that temporary evacuations could be done in areas that are flood-prone.
“Disaster response teams coordinated by National Government Administration Officers are monitoring the situation in various parts of the country and providing support to those affected,” read the statement in part.
“Residents of flood-prone areas who may be temporarily relocated for their safety are urged to cooperate with these response teams.”

On the other hand, it was detailed that emergency response teams were evacuating some families in Kisumu County after several homesteads were affected by the floods.
Members of 47 households, who have been evacuated are currently being hosted at Nanga Primary School.
“They are receiving humanitarian support from the State Department for Special Programmes and Red Cross and other agencies,” the Ministry added.
