Police in Makueni have launched a probe into the mysterious death of a couple whose bodies were found decomposing inside their house in Bangladesh Street.
The bodies identified as those of a man and a woman were discovered by curious neighbours who reported a foul smell emanating from the house.
The residents promptly alerted the police who visited the house only to find the woman’s body lying on a chair and with several stab wounds.
Meanwhile, the man’s body was found hanging from the ceiling, a situation that triggered the police to raise questions over the circumstances of their deaths.
According to witnesses, the couple have for a long time been embroiled in persistent domestic violence with neighbors claiming their differences could have prompted the incident.
“They were living together but had different houses and they, on many occasions, engaged in violence. The woman was a house help and did menial jobs,” narrated one of the neighbours.
“On Saturday, we heard them engaging in a wrangle. The man was beating the woman and we rushed to find out what was happening. We also informed the caretaker to settle their stalemate.”
The bodies of the deceased were moved to the Makueni Referral Hospital awaiting postmortem even as the police commenced investigations.

In a similar incident on March this year, police officers in Kimilili arrested a man who reportedly killed his wife and lover.
The 37-year-old man committed the gruesome act upon discovering his wife and her paramour engaged in intimate activities inside his rented apartment.
The tragic incident, which happened in the early hours of the morning, left residents in shock. Subsequently, the man confessed his actions to his sister who promptly alerted authorities at the Kimilili Police Station.
According to a neighbour, the cries of the wife went unanswered as it had become customary for the couple to engage in frequent altercations.
“They fight so much with the wife. I thought he was beating his wife as usual, I’m shocked to find out he murdered her,” a neighbour stated.
