Junet hits out at MPs complaining after being removed from parliamentary committees

Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has called out fellow legislators who are complaining about being removed from parliamentary committees

Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has called out fellow legislators who are complaining about being removed from parliamentary committees.

Speaking on Thursday, March 6, Junet dismissed claims by some members that their removal was unprocedural, stating that committee placements are the prerogative of party leadership.

He emphasized that committee positions are not permanent and that leadership, particularly the party whip, has the authority to make changes.

“I saw a member yesterday saying he cannot be replaced here; it is unprocedural. It is the prerogative of the leadership, especially the whip, to place members in committees,” he said.

Junet further reminded MPs that committee membership is not an automatic right but a privilege granted through party structures.

“There is no committee that you come with from your house; you come here when you don’t have a committee and you wait to be placed into a committee. You can be discharged or dewhipped anytime from a committee,” he asserted.

His remarks come amid rising discontent among some MPs who have been removed from committees.

For instance, Mumias East MP Peter Salasya blamed ODM leader Raila Odinga after being kicked off from the Departmental Committee on Regional Development.

Speaking on Thursday, Salasya said his removal from the committee is because of Raila’s deal with President William Ruto.

“I was removed from the Committee on Regional Integration and placed in the Committee of Broadcasting and Library Services, I was also taken to the Committee on Welfare. That shows that what Raila is telling the people that he is consulting is a lie. That man is selfish. That man has already sealed the deal with Ruto,” he said.

Salasya went on to say that being removed from the committee won’t stop him from developing his constituency, further vowing to go after the ODM Party in the western region and finish its dominance.

“It will not stop me from delivering, with CDF I can still develop my constituency. I want to tell those MPs who think that by removing us from committees will defeat me in terms of development, it will not happen because I am a good planner. We are going to finish ODM in Kakamega and Western. I am serious about it. After all, we are with the people,” he said.
