Kalonzo, Ngilu, Wamalwa, and Mt Kenya leaders meet amid cracks in Azimio
Azimio leaders (Kalonzo, Wamalwa, Ngilu, and Mt Kenya leaders) meet without Raila Odinga to oppose dialogue with the Ruto government.
The cracks within the Azimio La Umoja coalition continue to deepen as the principals take sides over the national dialogue question touted by Raila Odinga.
The leader of the ODM party, a member outfit of the opposition coalition, has lately been lenient to President William Ruto and his government which he now wants to engage in structured talks to address the issues raised by the Kenyan young population that recently embarked on a political revolt.
Besides ODM, Azimio houses the Wiper party led by Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP-K under Eugene Wamalwa, The Roots Party (George Wajackoyah), The Jubilee Party stewarded by Jeremiah Kioni, Peter Munya (PNU), Narc Kenya under Martha Karua and NARC of Charity Ngilu.
The foregoing party leaders resolved they would not back the dialogue.
They met on Thursday, July 18, and with the absence of Raila, they restated their stance.
“Definitely not boarding,” said Karua who shared a photo meet with her co-principals in an undisclosed location.

The ODM leader in an unforeseen display of political u-turn defended Ruto against the calls for his ouster saying the country would be in a worse mess than is at the moment. He warned that the ‘Ruto must go’ push might have dire consequences given that the baton would pass to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua whom he suggested is politically and technocratically inept to govern the country.
According to Raila, those pushing for Ruto’s ouster might not be aware of the consequences of having the president out of power.
He argued that the country needs consultative talks to resolve the prevalent challenges.
Even as he exhibited lenience toward Ruto, Raila clarified that he was not running after a possible deal with Ruto.
He was categorical that the faction he leads never claimed to be collaborating with the government.
Raila instead accused the media of fabricating the story of a handshake that has never been in the picture.
