Kenya MET department issues caution over upcoming rains
The Kenya MET Department cautions Nairobi and 29 other counties of upcoming heavy rains.
In its weekly forecast on Sunday, March 24, Kenya Met revealed that the 30 counties will experience between moderate and heavy rainfall and asked residents in the regions to stay safe.
“Nairobi City County Rainfall Forecast: Moderate to heavy rainfall likely over several parts of the city. Stay prepared and stay safe!” Cautioned the department.
The counties were divided into three regions including the highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley as well as the highlands east of the Rift Valley and the south-eastern lowlands.
The affected counties in the highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley are Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia and Baringo.
Others are; Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot counties.
The counties will experience rainfall for the next five days which will be heavier in the morning and showers in the afternoon and at night.
Throughout the period, the areas will also experience high temperatures of up to 33 degrees Celcius and lows of 9 degrees Celcius.
In the highlands East of Rift Valley counties, the rains will be high in the morning hours and lower in the afternoon and at night.
The counties that include Nyandarua and Laikipia will also experience high temperatures of up to 30 degrees Celcius and lows of 8 degrees Celcius.
Other affected counties are Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka and Nairobi.

In the South-eastern lowlands of Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta, high rainfalls will be experienced in some areas in the morning and low rainfall in the afternoon and at night.
Temperatures will range between 14 degrees Celcius and 35 degrees Celcius.
The Coastal counties of Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale will experience showers as well as temperatures of between 24 degrees Celcius and 35 degrees Celsius.
North-eastern counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo as well as those of North-western that include Turkana and Samburu will be sunny with select rainfall days. Temperatures will oscillate between 13 degrees Celcius and 40 degrees Celcius.
