Kenya Met Department warns of extremely high daytime temperatures in 5 regions ahead of Christmas

Kenya Met Department has announced that the Coast, North-Eastern Kenya, North-Western Kenya, parts of Western Kenya and the South-Eastern lowlands are expected to experience high daytime temperatures

The Kenya Met Department has announced that the Coast, North-Eastern Kenya, North-Western Kenya, parts of Western Kenya and the South-Eastern lowlands are expected to experience high daytime temperatures over the next seven days.

In a weather forecast report on Tuesday, December 24, the weatherman disclosed that the daytime temperatures in the regions are expected to exceed 30°C during the period.

“Temperatures are set to rise, with daytime highs exceeding 30°C in the Coast, North-Eastern Kenya, North-Western Kenya, parts of Western Kenya, and South-Eastern Lowlands. Stay cool and keep hydrated!” Kenya Met stated.

The counties in the South-Eastern lowlands referenced in the weather forecast include Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta, as well as the inland parts of Tana-River County.

On the other hand, the North-eastern Kenya counties listed in the forecast are Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties, while North-Western Kenya includes Turkana and Samburu counties.

The coastal counties listed in the forecast include Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale as well as the coastal parts of Tana River.

However, the weatherman noted that cooler nights are forecasted, with temperatures expected to drop below 10°C in the Central Highlands, Central and South Rift Valley, and parts of the South-Eastern lowlands.

At the same time, Kenya Met disclosed that rainfall is expected to reduce significantly after Boxing Day, with much of the country transitioning to sunny and dry conditions.

However, the weatherman noted that during the onset of the week, parts of Western Kenya, the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, Central and South Rift Valley, South-Eastern lowlands, and the Coast may still experience some showers.
