Mohamed Salah wary of ‘transfer mistake’ as contract stand-off with Liverpool heightens
2 min readMohamed Salah is still yet to sign a new Liverpool contract and wages are again at the centre of the problem, but the Egyptian should consider a previous mistake as talks stall
Liverpool have been handed another setback as they look to tie Mohamed Salah down to a new contract, with talks stalling due to wage demands.
Salah has insisted that he wants to stay at Anfield but will resist the temptation unless Liverpool increases their current offer as the Egyptian believes that it does not match the value that he brings to the club.
The Egyptian is undoubtedly one of the best players in the world, and Liverpool should certainly review their approach as a new deal benefits both the player and the club.
But Salah should take into consideration a ‘mistake’ made by his former Liverpool teammate before making any bold decisions.
Philippe Coutinho is one of the only high-profile names to move on, which didn’t exactly work out at Barcelona.
Hesitance from the club and partial stubbornness from Salah could make a fairy-tale journey come to a nightmare end, and the Egyptian should take first-hand advice from Georginio Wijnaldum when weighing up his future.
WIjnaldum left Liverpool in the summer despite Klopp wishing him to stay, as it was believed that the club didn’t offer him enough to stay, and he jumped at a bumper contract with Paris Saint Germain.
But Wijnaldum has gone from a fan favourite at Liverpool to a forgotten man in Paris, and the Dutchman has even revealed that he made a ‘mistake’ leaving Anfield.
Salah may not have playing time as a concern should he move elsewhere, but the Egyptian has admitted on many occasions that he loves Liverpool, and should he seek a new challenge off the back of contract implications then he could face a similar problem to Wijnaldum.
There’s no doubt that Salah is worth exactly what he is asking for, and Liverpool should reconsider their approach, but happiness is something that the Egyptian should prioritize too so that he doesn’t have the same regret should he move away.
