Moi Univesity closed indefinitely

Moi University has been closed indefinitely following a prolonged lecturer's strike

Moi University has been closed indefinitely following a prolonged lecturer’s strike.

In a notice issued by the institution on Thursday, October 3, the institution added that the closure was also informed by the strike of the students.

Consequently, all students were asked to vacate all campuses and the main university with immediate effect.

Additionally, those staying in the school were asked to leave the hostels with immediate effect.

Meanwhile, international students were urged to liaise with the Dean of Students for further direction.

“Re-opening dates will be communicated in due course. The University Council and Management are working to ensure that University operations resume as soon as possible.

“Further, we thank the students for their understanding and support in maintaining calm during the period when Academic programmes were disrupted,” read the notice in part.

In recent days, lecturers and workers at Moi University downed their tools over delayed salaries.

This has crippled learning at the institution, forcing the students to join the strike and demand for the school administration to resolve the stalemate with the lecturers.

“We are very frustrated with the school administration led by the Vice-Chancellor. We have tried to negotiate with the school administration to try and resolve the stalemate that has been around here,” one of the students lamented during the Thursday demos.
