Signing is not voting; Mt Kenya MP says signing Gachagua impeachment motion

Embu Women Representative Pamela Njoki Njeru has explained her decision to support the tabling of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's impeachment motion

Embu Women Representative Pamela Njoki Njeru has explained her decision to support the tabling of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua impeachment motion.

In a statement on Wednesday, October 2, the MP said that she supported the motion to ensure the tabling process was respected.

Njoki added that signing the motion is not the same as voting and that when the time to cast her vote comes, she will consider decision of the Embu people.

“It is important to clarify that signing the motion is not the same as casting a vote. My signature was simply to ensure that the democratic process is respected and that the motion can be tabled for debate in the National Assembly. As a legislator, I believe in giving every matter its due process and hearing.

“After careful reflection and serious consultations with my constituents, be assured that my conscience and your voice as Embu People will guide me to vote wisely in accordance with your wish when the motion is tabled,” she stated.

Njoki clarified that her priority will always be the people of Embu and that her decision on the matter would be in the best interest of the people she serves and the country at large.

This comes barely a day after the Wiper Democratic Movement clarified that Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse is not a member of their party.

In a statement on Tuesday, October 1, shortly after Mutuse tabled a motion calling for Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment, the party said the MP is a member of the Maendeleo Chap Chap Party.

“Mutuse is a member of Maendeleo Chap Chap Party associated with Cabinet Secretary For Labor and Social Protection Dr. Alfred Mutua.

“This distinction is important in understanding the political alignments and affiliations in Kenya,” Wiper Party said in a statement.

Wiper also emphasized that the party opposes the proposed impeachment motion against the Deputy President.
