Police intercept a man carrying a military AK-47 rifle and ammunition in Juja
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have arrested a 42-year-old man after he was found in possession of an AK-47 rifle, ammunition and other suspicious items during a patrol operation in Juja Sub-County, Kiambu County.
According to a police report, the arrest was made by officers on patrol at the Kenyatta Road area, about one kilometre west of Muigai Inn Police Post.
The officers intercepted a suspicious green Nissan X-Trail registration number KDC 630J and escorted both the vehicle and its driver to Muigai Inn Police Post for further inspection.

Upon conducting a thorough search of the vehicle, police recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition in the magazine and one round in the chamber hidden under the driver’s seat.
Officers also recovered three rounds of 7.62mm ammunition beside the driver’s seat, pieces of uni tape, two daggers, 56 nylon cable ties, assorted sacks, tying ropes and a bunch of keys, all of which were kept as exhibits.
Police identified the suspect as John Muiruri, a 42-year-old Kikuyu male adult. He was arrested and later escorted together with the motor vehicle to Juja Police Station where he remains in custody pending further investigations.
Investigators are now pursuing leads to establish the source of the firearm and the intended use of the recovered items.
