Several pupils feared dead and others suffering injuries after a school bus belonging to Maadili schools overturned along Gitugi- Murang'a road

Several pupils feared dead and others suffering injuries after a school bus belonging to Maadili schools overturned along Gitugi- Murang’a road.

According to reports, two students allegedly succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at the Murang’a Level 5 hospital.

The bus was reportedly ferrying the pupils from a scouts’ event in Nyeri when the accident occurred.

They added that the school bus lost control and veered off the road before overturning in a nearby thicket.

The exact number of fatalities and casualties is yet to be established. 

Murang’a subcounty police commander Mary Wakuu, however, said they are still trying to establish the fatalities and how many pupils have been injured.

Latest reports indicate that three pupils have been confirmed dead in the Saturday evening accident.

Kainga confirmed that one pupil died at the scene while two others perished as they were undergoing treatment at Murang’a Level Five Hospital.

Two pupils who suffered serious injuries are currently in the hospital’s ICU while the rest, including the teachers and drivers, are being attended to.

According to police, the bus had 35 pupils, two drivers and three teachers at the time of the accident.

Meanwhile, investigations have since been launched by the police to establish the root cause of the accident.
