Ruto announces plan to build a new city in Bungoma

President William Ruto announced that the government will build a new city in Bungoma County

President William Ruto announced that the government will build a new city in Bungoma County.

Speaking on Friday, May 31 during the launch of tarmacking of the Mayanja-Sirisia road in Bungoma, the President said the government will use the land that has been allocated to build an airport to build the new city.

Ruto noted that the national government and the Bungoma county government would agree on the building of the city.

“I am planning a comprehensive plan to build a city in that town (Bungoma). The land where there was a plan to build an airport we want to build a city there that is comparable to Nairobi. We will coordinate with the county government to plan that matter,” said Ruto.

At the same time, the Head of State said the government has built a runway at the Matulo airstrip but asked Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka to allocate more land for the runway to be extended.

President Ruto also mentioned that the government would construct a new terminal in the airstrip.

“We set up a runway at the airstrip, but we agreed with Governor Lusaka that the runway is short. He should add more land so we can extend that runway and build a terminal,” Ruto added.

Bungoma County which is set to host the Madaraka Day celebrations on Saturday, June 1 has been under renovation for the past few months.

Government Spokesperson Issac Mwaura earlier announced that the first phase of the renovation of the Masinde Muliro Stadium cost sh 807 million.

The government also used sh 139 million to facilitate construction works at the Matulo airstrip.
