Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has distanced himself from the JKIA-Adani deal a day after he was accused of being the broker in the airport takeover.
Speaking in the Senate on Thursday, September 19, the Majority Leader expressed that he had never met Gautam Adani or any officials of the Indian company.
He added that he was not in any position to negotiate on behalf of Kenya in the deal as he did not work for the Ministry of Transport and the Kenya Airports Authority.
Therefore, he termed the allegations made by Nelson Amenya during an interview on KTN News as remarks aimed at tarnishing his reputation.
“For the record, I do not know Mr Adani as alleged. I have never met that individual,” he stated.
“I do not work for KAA, I do not work for the Ministry of Transport and I do not know on what conditions I can broker a deal for the government with another entity.”

Consequently, Cheruiyot revealed that he will be seeking legal redress against the Amenya.
“I have worked extremely hard to protect my public image. You cannot fight corruption by character assassination of other individuals. I want to tell that gentleman that my lawyers will be reaching out to him,” the Senator remarked.
“The media house that was also used to soil my name will also have to give an account.”
The JKIA-Adani deal has been criticised by Kenyans across the political divide. Notably, various groups have also moved to court to block the takeover.
