As revealed by the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) on Thursday, September 19, it was revealed that that the CJ explained that it was prudent for all officers to respect and defend the rule of law.

Her remarks came against the backdrop of the tiff between the police and the judiciary which was occasioned by the the failure of former acting IG Gilbert Masengeli to appear in court despite orders from the judge.

Additionally, the differences between the two institutions widened once the security of Justice Lawrence Mugambi was withdrawn.

“The Chief Justice called on the IG to strengthen inter-agency collaborations saying the security sector plays a critical role in the criminal justice system,” read the statement in part.

“Koome also emphasized on the need to uphold the rule of law adding that police officers should be at the forefront in defending the constitution.”
