ODM Secretary General has hit out at State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed after he denied reports that some MPs from the ODM party skipped a meeting convened by President William at State House Nairobi

ODM Secretary General has hit out at State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed after he denied reports that some MPs from the ODM party skipped a meeting convened by President William at State House Nairobi.

In a statement on Wednesday, September 11, Hussein said a story published by a local daily indicating a section of ODM Mps skipped Ruto’s meeting was misleading.

The State House Spokesperson noted that President Ruto on Monday, September 9 inspected the progress of the 4,054-unit Kibera Soweto East Zone B Affordable Housing Project in Nairobi County and after the event, the MPs in attendance accompanied him to State House for an informal lunch.

He also alleged that State House communicates or invites MPs or any other individuals and groups through official channels.

“There was no formal meeting as suggested. State House communicates or invites MPs or any other individuals or groups through official channels only,” said Hussein.

However, the response from State House did not sit well with Senator Edwin Sifuna, who swiftly dismissed the spokesperson’s statement.

“You are lying,” Sifuna retorted, making it clear that he and other ODM lawmakers had deliberately avoided the event.

“The President has no powers to convene members of ODM,” Sifuna continued, accusing President Ruto of overstepping his authority. “I found the invitation disrespectful as it perpetuates nefarious political ends,” Sifuna was quoted stating on the piece by Nation.

Sifuna’s remarks echoed sentiments of dissatisfaction among some ODM legislators, who have grown increasingly uneasy with the party’s warming relations with the Ruto administration.

President Ruto was on Monday pictured with a section of ODM MPs including Makadara MP George Aladwa at State House.
