A senior National Intelligence Service (NIS) officer has been found dead at his official residence in Nyamira town.
According to the police, the 56-year-old officer, who has since been identified as David Kipkoech Kosgey, was discovered lifeless inside his house under suspicious circumstances.
Preliminary reports suggest early observations point to possible signs of a struggle before his death.
Kosgey’s body was found with blood stains believed to have resulted from vomiting blood, police say.
However, investigators noted that there were no visible physical injuries on the body.
The deceased was supposed to travel to Nairobi for official duty, but could not be reached by junior officers, prompting a break-in to his residence.
The incident was confirmed by Nyamira County commissioner Benson Leparimorijo, who also confirmed the deceased was the head of County Intelligence Coordination.

According to Leparimorijo, Kosgey’s body was discovered at around midday on Friday, June 5, after heightened suspicion over his whereabouts emerged.
The County Commissioner also confirmed that the house was completely locked from the inside, requiring junior officers to physically break down the door to gain entry.
His body was taken to Nyamira Level 5 mortuary, awaiting a postmortem to determine the actual cause of his death.
Detectives have since marked the house as a crime scene even as investigations into his death intensify.
However, by the time of this publication, no arrest had been made, and official communication from the police had not yet followed regarding what might have transpired.
