Standard Group journalist Ali Manzu has been appointed to lead a taskforce mandated to provide recommendations and advice on Mombasa County government creative economy.
In an Executive Order dated December 23 issued by Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, the KTN news anchor will chair a nine-member taskforce.
Other members of the taskforce include Caroline Ngorobi (vice chairperson), Esther Ingolo (secretary) Awadh Salim, Hellen Mwanzia, Kessi Juma, Michel Jerry, Daudi Anguka and Margaret Matunda.
“Whereas the county government of Mombasa, under the Mwanzo Mpya Manifesto, is committed to nurturing and developing the creative economy by facilitating innovation, talent, research, production, distribution and exploitation of intellectual property, including audiovisual arts, performing arts, visual arts, design and literacy arts;
“Now therefore, I, Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir, Governor of Mombasa County, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and the County Governments Act, do hereby direct and order that a taskforce is hereby established to provide recommendations and advice on the Mombasa County Creative Economy,” read part of the Executive Order.
In the Executive Order, Governor Nassir stated that the tasforce will evaluate challenges facing the creative economy industry in the county and develop a comprehensive plan to transform the creative sector into a significant contributor to economic growth.

The taskforce is also mandated to identify actionable roles and contributions for stakeholders, review the sustainability and viability of existing programs and projects within the creative economy in the county and develop a collaborative strategy for engagement with the national government and other stakeholders to position Mombasa County’s creative economy as a preferred cultural and tourist destination.
Additionally, Governor Nassir noted that the taskforce will be mandated to review the County’s marketing strategies, explore and expand monetization opportunities within the creative economy and develop an actionable implementation plan.
The taskforce will serve for a period of six months with effect from December 20, 2024.
