Activist Boniface Mwangi has disclosed he wanted to take his own life on August 3, 2024.
In a statement on Monday, September 16, Mwangi noted that he found himself in a dark place, claiming that a few days before, he signed his will.
The vocal activist maintained that he was in unbearable pain and, as a result, wished to leave the world.
“On August 3, 2024, I found myself in a very dark place and considered taking my own life. A few days earlier, l had signed my will, then rang or texted a few people. It was my farewell. I wanted to die. Exit this world for good.
“There was simply too much pain, grief, and trauma in my life that I couldn’t bear it any longer. I couldn’t continue watching helplessly as our country was sucked into a sickening, deadly vortex of state-sanctioned violence, targeting innocent Kenyans,” Mwangi remarked.

However, he stated that his family’s support and love during this difficult time made him reconsider his thoughts. He is now in a better mental space.
“They forced me to seek professional help and to take a health break to focus on my mental wellness. That helped to re-center me. I have a fresh and new lease of life now and truly appreciate the overwhelming love and support that was extended to me and my family during that time,” Mwangi explained.
The activist has consistently and publicly challenged the government on various issues, with his most recent focus being the unexplained abductions of three individuals in Kitengela.
On Tuesday, September 3, the court freed him together with four others in a case where they were charged with unlawful assembly.
